So we’re talking about diarrhea. The runs, squirts, trots. Isn’t that fun?

Whatever your preferred slang, it’s uncomfortable, potentially embarrassing (hello public restrooms), and just plain not fun. But even more so, it does have the potential to be life threatening, even in modernized cultures. Our natural inclination is to run to the cabinet to grab a drug to make it stop as quickly as possible,  but it’s a natural response of our bodies to expel something that’s not supposed to be there. So if we’d like it to stop without taking something that paralyzes our intestines, what natural options do we have?

This week we’re talking about just that. Thankfully, you don’t have to be strictly limited to just traditional options, but there are several natural methods to help cleanse your colon and regulate back to it’s natural state. We talk about the many possible causes of diarrhea, the many natural options available to relieve symptoms and restore balance, and the dangers of chronic diarrhea.

Some Topics We Discussed:

  • What are the causes behind getting diarrhea? (5:11)

  • What is the most common, conventional way people deal with diarrhea and what are things to be aware of? (10:21)

  • What is the biggest risk of having diarrhea? (12:20)

  • What are some natural remedies to be aware of? (13:32)

Key Takeaways From This Episode:

  •  If you have something that is a concentrated poison, the body has so much wisdom, it wants to dilute the poison. So it pours water into the system. (6:29)

  • Stress can wreak havoc on your gut. (7:38)

  • Be able to identify your triggers. There can be a myriad of things that can trigger you. (6:57)

  • Do not be eating foods with heavy dairy or heavy fat for some time until you recover. (15:05)

  • Charcoal is the #1 natural remedy available. (16:23)

Brian Strickland 00:43 What's up everyone, you are listening to The Holistic Navigator Podcast where we talk about all things holistic health in belief in the body's ability to heal itself, if given the proper nutrients and care. We're so glad that you decided to listen in today. My name is Brian Strickland. I'm the producer of this show. And let me go ahead and introduce your host the man with 40 years of industry experience, Mr. Ed Jones.

Ed Jones 01:09 Thank you, Brian, so much. And I am always excited to do this podcast because I love sharing my four plus decades of listening, watching, observing and hopefully helping many, many people along the journey of natural health and healing. We are in a very scary time, I do believe and it's gotten even worse in the past year. And in the past 90 days. And I will explain that as far as health care and we don't have a health care system. We have a sick care system that feeds upon over diagnosing, over treatments, and the lack of respect for botanical medicines. Do you know that 80% of the world relies on botanical medicines? Botanical meaning more natural, herbal, non-pharmaceutical. Why is that? It's not just because they're less expensive. They have a wonderful track record of safety and effectiveness. Not in acute situations. If I have a heart attack, send me to the ER with all the drugs they want to pump in me to make me live another day. But for chronic diseases, the pharmaceuticals are the third leading cause of death in this country. That was a study by the New England Journal of Medicine. And in chronic care, the body can heal itself most of the time, but only if we give it what it needs and take away what's hurting it. And actually, your body's ability ability to heal is greater than anyone is permitting you to believe today because it's not profitable for the other side of this fence. And one thing that happened on June 9 this year, which was not but about what three or four months ago 2019 is Google changed their algorithms completely to devastate your ability to research anything but pharmaceutical solutions. Why do I know that? Because I saw the numbers as of June 9 it is no longer going to be possible to type in something like natural cures for like today's podcast, acute diarrhea. When I typed it in, that goes to the very conventional links now. It is totally putting everything on page 10 instead of page one when it comes to natural health and healing. Scary stuff. We are being censored people. So you have to dig deeper. One reason I'm glad I'm doing this podcast. Now before I get into the conversation today, Brian, which is acute diarrhea, I must again say nothing I am saying is treating your diseases nor your diarrhea. This is about education, people. I've been around the world many times on this path of holistic health, disease, and trying to optimize our longevity. If you have any medical conditions and you have terrible things like diarrhea, and it's not going well, seek help of your medical professional. We've all heard the words dysentery, Montezuma's revenge, they got the trots, flux, backdoor trots, and you know laughter is the best medicine unless you have diarrhea. And I don't need to explain what it is. 100% of all adults, certainly have a concept of diarrhea. We are human creatures, and we are prone to be exposed to things that can cause some devastation on that part of the system of the body, which is going to the bathroom endlessly with a lot of water. A lot of sometimes different colors and shapes and sizes and squirts and all of that. So I'm going to tell you what other people are not saying. If I had this condition when it will hit again. I mean, I've been very fortunate for gosh, on all we want to brag on it, because you know what will happen people, but a long time. So what is the reason that the body wants to have diarrhea. One thing before I get into that we, you know, I take a step back and I really look at every single component of a symptom, because it is the body's way of communicating and purifying itself. We have gotten into a place of almost demonizing the natural tendencies that the body was built with in order to survive. If you have diarrhea, it means the body knows it needs to get rid of something. If it didn't, there's going to be more harm in retaining it than getting rid of it. So we need to honor the fact that it needs to get an exit door open. Kind of like if you're in a movie theater and the fire of big fire breaks out, you're going to open the exit door and everybody will pile out. That's what's happening when you have diarrhea. It means that the food moves too quickly through the small intestines without any opportunity for water to be removed. Because we know diarrhea is always watery. And if the water is not absorbed, or there's excessive amount of water, then you are going to excrete it because it's heavy, the bowels will not hold it. Now, why does the body have all this water? Guess what? If you have something that is a concentrated poison, the body has so much wisdom, it wants to dilute the poison. So it pours water into the system. It is so freakin smart that I just it's profound how smart the body is. So we know that diarrhea, atleast from the explanation is excess water in the gut, and intestines. Nothing wrong with that people. Let's respect it. But what is causing it? We know that most of the time, it is either the food you ate like food poisoning and or a stomach bug. We could call it bug which could be virus or bacterial. Many times it's viral, which means nothing is going to work on it as far as pharmaceuticals. So you have this bug, the body's going to want to desperately get rid of it like it will any pathogen. Number two medications will cause terrible disruption in some people. In fact, 40% of all users of antibiotics will have some gut issues including discomfort and sometimes diarrhea. Stress. I think we've all probably experienced some impact with stress on the gut lining, because why is that? Again taking the step back the gut, and intestinal lining produces brain chemicals. 60% of them is not made in the brain as much as it is in the gut. So if that's the case, when you're under terrible stress, the gut lining also is reverberating from these neurotransmitters because it's trying to pump out more and getting in balance because of the anger and frustration and trauma involved with stress. IBS, celiac, kaleidos, chrones. Those are reasons that people have diarrhea that really are not going to be part of this conversation that is more falling under the classic chronic diarrhea and has to be diagnosed. So that's where I value the medical system for their ability to diagnose. Most people that doesn't fall under that class. I'm speaking more of the Montezuma's revenge kind of diarrhea. Next certain foods. As we age people, I will just be honest with you, I've watche, heard, listened to 100,000 people, not 10, hundreds of 1000s of people share their intimate stories with me about their health, their bowel movements, their foods, so this or that, and as we age, the immune system gets more sensitive. The immune system, at times can start seeing a certain class of food as an enemy. Well, all of a sudden, people say, well, it's never bothered me for 52 years. That's just the common story. If you live long enough, you will start having trigger foods. And we need to be aware of that because they are critical for your optimal health to kind of eliminate those. Next too much coffee. Coffee is a small laxative. In fact, every single morning, I will drink a tall cup of coffee, because I enjoy it. And it also really helps me every morning at and I'll make fun of this because but it's actually realistically true Brian 6:22am. Between that and 6:24am is Edward Jones's BM every morning, every morning,

Brian Strickland 09:52 And we're all so glad to know that.

Ed Jones 09:54 I know you are. So no gifts are needed or anything else but I do feel better about sharing that. Next intense exercise. Too much running in the heat or endurance or killing yourself in the gym can cause the squirts to happen. Lastly is too much alcohol. I think any of us who have been drinkers has experienced some of that. Well, what do most people do? Well, most kind of suffer through diarrhea if they have a bad episode hoping that, you know, within two to three hours it goes away. And if it doesn't, and you're, you know, at the drugstore, you have family members who are really hooked into medications, it's time for the Imodium. What is Imodium? It is a drug. One doesn't mean it's terrible, but it is a synthetic drug. Two: it paralyzes the intestinal track. I am not completely opposed to this, if in a period of two days you are not able to function, and the runoff is simply ridiculous and nothing is stopping it. However, if we go back to the first statement I made in this podcast, honoring the rhythms of our human body, the body's trying to get rid of something people, why would you stop its process? When you understand that. Why do we have fever when we're sick? is burning something out? Why would you stop a favor unless it is far above what it would be? You know, ridiculous. I mean, you know, 104s, you got to bring it down. Listen, people we live in a country of such fear based individuals that the body, if it does anything strange, it has to go to an expert because something's going haywire. This isn't your car where the carburetors messed up, and you're barely getting down the road. Your body has the ability to heal this if we honor and respect it. But the drugs that are given, I would be very conservative with unless they just had to be just had to be and of course, the prescription drug for that can cause so many things like depression and anxiety, because it does it in a different mechanism of action. What is the number one danger of diarrhea? It's not just inconvenient, it can be lethal. And the reason is dehydration. What is dehydration? It is the basically is where potassium and sodium become deficient in the body. Why is that important? It's because we are electrical beings. In fact, I've ordered this little ball that I love to show people and you have these two little prongs on this ping pong ball, and you put one finger on one and one on the other end your physical electricity lights the ball up. And the day that you have no electricity will be the day that you are no longer a living human. Well, potassium and sodium are what is the basic electric lines that run everything in your system to transport this electricity, especially to the heart. That's where we die from dehydration. The heart can lose its pace and lose its message because if you're too dehydrated, it can't travel because the electric cord is built of sodium and potassium. So that's where you have to use common sense people. So if you have a particular place in your diarrhea, let's just say you've had extreme amounts for more than 12 hours. You're gonna have to start thinking about dehydration. That means of course taking in fluids. I love coconut water. I think is the best way to rehydrate because it has potassium and sodium. And it you know you got to even though it has sugar in it at that point is is going to be more positive than negative in any way. So drinking coconut water, not a lot at one serving. You want to drink about four ounces, scattering that out every 20 to 30 minutes with water also. I do not recommend the Gatorade drinks they are far full of negative ingredients. Everything from the colorings, to the type of sugar, which is despicable and the electrolytes are minimal. They truly are. I do believe in bone broth. So good vegetable soups or chicken bras, bone bras. Not a big believer that you should be eating much food. Again step back and observe wildlife. How many times have you seen your pet or even when you see nature shows if animals are sick, the last thing you're doing is eating because it takes so much energy for the body to digest. It needs it for healing purposes people so honor that. Now there's a point where your blood sugars. But again, learn what works for you. Do not be eating foods with heavy dairy or heavy fat for some time until you recover or it's going to cause another explosion. Now there are explosions caused by gall bladders. That's the course would be more chronic, but it can come and go. So that's something that you have to be aware of. All right, let's just say Edward Jones had a really bad let's say I went on a flight somewhere on a plane. I had some strange food, you know, I was not in my familiar surroundings, you're not really sure what you're taking in. And I had the revenge coming on. And what do I do? Well, if I'm at home, then I have my toolkit already prepared. And I encourage everyone to not wait for a type of episode in your body sickness wise. Go ahead and put together some things so that you don't have to run out during the worst moments of your life to pick up your remedies. First off, when I Googled just to see what was going to pop up natural remedies for diarrhea, the number one absolute without question, most effective ingredient never popped up. It would have popped up before June 9, it doesn't pop up now. So we are being censored. Again. Be careful people what you read. Charcoal is a blessing from heaven. Let me tell you, it has been used for so many decades, for so many reasons still kept in the emergency room of most hospitals because of its life saving abilities. Why is that? It is like a sponge. It takes into itself because it has these big like openings like doors that when you ingest it is going to capture anything that it touches like a magnet. Key to charcoal working is dosage people do not follow the directions on the bottle or it will be a waste. I will tell you right now that when you do charcoal 10 capsules a day is what Edward Jones has to use in order to get any benefit. And that's twice a day, if I'm finding something in the stomach bug conversation. Now you can buy powders these days and use a teaspoon. It will blacken your tongue, it will blacken your stool. It's actually a good way to test for stool transit time, which is the amount of time it takes from the time you eat until it comes out on the opposite end. And I have recommended this for people who were questioning how long does it take in my food to digest and I actually test myself every couple times a year so then you can take like four or five capsules when it comes out coal, tar black you can kind of count the time from when you ingested those to the time it comes out. It should not be excessive. If it's more than 24 hours time to do something about that people. So charcoal first sign do not take it with drugs and or any supplements because of its magnet ability it will absorb anything. We want it to absorb the pathogens not anything else you're taking. So if you have to take other goodies go two hours apart in order to do that. And again legally check with your doctor if you're being treated and or on medications. Next one. If you've heard my podcast on The Holistic Navigator called my approach to fighting illness, you will know how I revere this particular herb of all time. It I've used it for so many purposes olive leaf. This is not olive oil people. The olive leaf contains an ingredient called oli europen that add a concentration of 18% will do things that I've never observed with any other herbal product. And anytime I'm feeling the least bit caught as far as a cold stomach thing, a skin thing, anything and everything where I'm thinking, you know, the germs whether we call them bacteria or viruses are getting a head start on my body, I will use olive leaf at again, dosage is critical at six capsules per day I'll do two morning to lunch and to supper. I've recently found for those interested in experimenting on this that for some reason that I can't explain and I'm really damn good at figuring out these things. But for some reason, when I take to olive leaf at night, my sleep is considerably better and deeper. And I don't know why. It could be killing the yeast. It could be making my blood pressure go down all of those things are wonderful attributes of olive leaf, but you got to get an 18% concentration and you have to know the dosage. So there. The two magic parts to this is charcoal and olive leaf. If you did nothing else you're going to be very, very pleased in most cases. Again, if it continues on, you can't stop it, you know, then you consider other things like Imodium or going to visit someone to make sure you're not going to get dehydrated and pass away. I don't want to lose any listeners. Now, the the bigger list after this probiotics would be number three. Probiotics are limp or more limited in helping you during it. And they're far more skilled in preventing it. I did a wonderful interview with Brenda Watson who was on PBS for years speaking about gut health colon health. And you can go back on Holistic Navigator and listen to that. On probiotics you have to choose the right brands, you have to get them shipped properly shipping without icepacks. Please don't do that with any nutritional supplements in the middle of summer or they will not work people. So probiotic more for prevention, but I do recommend you doing it even if you're feeling bad because it's disrupting the microbiome terribly. If you're nauseous ginger capsules, amazing but do not take too many of these because then you start burping it and then you actually make yourself worse, one to two capsules, every six hours can really relieve that nausea. And then the last two remedies for like me, I will throw everything but the kitchen sink in because I want so much to make sure I've covered every base. You don't know why you really have diarrhea. What if it's not a pathogen? You know, what if it's not yeast, what if it's not virus? Well, you're not going to hurt yourself by these remedies people. As long as you are a relatively healthy individual, and you get them from a good quality source, you're going to be fine. So the last two that I use, which I am hugely connected to is collodial silver, and using it about every four to six hours, but I always recommend only purchasing silver with a parts per million of 10 to at most 50 but I prefer 10 to 30 pp amps can hurt you. And in fact the studies on mercola.com show that if you do silver with an antibiotic, it doubles the effectiveness of the antibiotic and helps keep down the bad guys like C diff and others. And very Lastly, manuka honey. We have been fortunate to interview a expert on manuka honey Mike Everly I think was his name and he has a whole bunch of hives over in where was it Brian?

Brian Strickland 22:37 New Zealand.

Ed Jones 22:37 New Zealand, thank you. But manuka honey has significant research that it can negate so many of these negative pathogens, but leave intact the good guys. That's what we want people antibiotics are they don't discriminate. manuka honey will go in and only weaken the pathogens that make us sick. You have to have the brand again, that is going to work and when you listen to my podcast with Mike Everly on Manuka Honey, you will get the lowdown on how to choose the correct manuka honey. And then you know, again, I go back to the bone broth is really great. Do not introduce foods until you feel like it choose. I'm not gonna speak about the foods because that's individual, start easy, start slow. And know that it will pass people I am so confident in the human body. You know, we have a magic pharmacy within there is no doubt. But only can we empower that with the proper lifestyle. foods that are correct and natural nutritional supplements that are taken in the correct manner. So remember to trust in this body of yours it is healed everything up to this point, or you wouldn't be listening. In fact, a pocket he said as to diseases, make a habit of two things to help or at least to do no harm. Thank you everyone. And I hope you have a pleasant rest of the day and week and look forward to you listening. Hopefully next week. We've got so many exciting things coming on the holistic navigator. And please send us questions please refer to your friends. All of these if they're interested. And subscribe is what fuels our podcast. Blessings to you.
